In 1912, French poet and critic Guillaume Apollinaire described Pierre-Auguste Renoir (French, 18411919) as the greatest painter of our time and one of the greatest painters of all times. A few years later, the Paris-based, American-born connoisseur Leo Stein wrote that Renoir lovers are insatiable collectors of his pictures. Dr. Albert C. Barnes was no exception, and today the Barnes collection holds 181 works by Renoir, including these twelve classic oil paintings.
