Becks Futures was established in 2000 as an annual exhibition and award to provide a platform for the support for the work of young and emerging UK based artists. Now in its seventh year, Becks Futures has expanded the platform and will, in collaboration with the Centre for Contemporary Arts, Glasgow and the Arnolfini, Bristol present three exhibitions of the work of all the participating artists at the three institutions concurrently. This years participants were selected by the artists Jake & Dinos Chapman, Martin Creed, Cornelia Parker, Yinka Shonibare and Gillian Wearing.
The Beck's Futures award provides a platform for emerging UK artists. Now in its seventh year, the 2006 exhibition and award continues its mission to support young artists. This year, the initiative collaborates with the Centre for Contemporary Arts, Glasgow, and the Arnolfini, Bristol, to present concurrent exhibitions of all participating artists' work across the three institutions. The selection of this year's participants was curated by a distinguished panel of artists: Jake & Dinos Chapman, Martin Creed, Cornelia Parker, Yinka Shonibare, and Gillian Wearing.
As an exhibition catalogue and award platform, Beck's Futures 2006 serves to document and promote the work of emerging artists. The collaborative nature of the exhibitions across multiple institutions suggests a broad reach and engagement with the contemporary art scene. The involvement of established artists in the selection process indicates a focus on critical recognition and artistic merit within the contemporary UK art landscape.
