This volume investigates the historical statistical landscape of the Test match rivalry between England and Australia from its inception in 1877 through 1985. Edited by cricket historian David Frith, the work compiles comprehensive match data to provide a definitive record of the competitive evolution between these two nations. It serves as a primary reference tool for researchers and enthusiasts seeking to quantify the performance metrics of the sport's most storied international contest.

The subject matter points to a dense, specialist reference text intended for cricket historians and dedicated statisticians. The framing suggests a rigorous, data-heavy approach that prioritizes accuracy and archival completeness over narrative prose.
