The operation of the Siemens SRS200 automatic X-ray spectrometer, which can also be operated manually, is described. Details of its application to routine analysis are given, and these demonstrate its high level of performance, even in the analysis of elements present in part-per-million concentrations. Modifications that were made to the sample cups and the installation of a non-dedicated computer are discussed.
