Introduction to Stellar Statistics Vol. 10 Hardcover Although one of the basic difficulties of stellar statistics is random sampling there is value i applying the notions and methods of mathematical statistics. In fact, the author considers that the application of these concepts is highly desirable and might even be indispensable because (a) they enable us to formulate the problem properly; (b) they indicate which data should be observed and how they should be used; and (c) in some cases it may thus become possible to apply rigorous statistical tests. The emphasis is more on astronomical than statistical aspects and on methods than on results. A heuristic approach is adopted and very simple qualitative considerations precede mathematical deductions. Only the first elements of calculus and analytically geometry need to be known by readers. The book is written as a first introduction and it will be found extremely useful by students and others requiring information concerned with astronomy and physics, which is authoritative and is yet in a form which can readily be comprehended.
