
Americas: New Interpretive Essays is an optional addition to the television course for upper-level students and a supplement to traditional courses on Latin American studies. The book is composed of original essays written especially as a companion to the series by prominent scholars with an expertise in each area. Each essay expands on the themes and materials presented in the programs. The authors, members of Americas' academic advisory board, are prominent social scientists and humanists in Latin American and Caribbean studies. The editor, Alfred Stepan, is a Burgess Professor of Political Science at Columbia University and a Latin American scholar of note.
