The Baltic States presents a comprehensive survey of the development of the new security debate in and around the three Baltic states: Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Their independence and return to Europe in 1991 opened up a Baltic dimension in the evolution of European security policies which is relevant not only for the Baltic Sea Region and the Nordic Region, but also for the EU, NATO, and the United States and for their relations with Russia. The author describes the future options and possibilities for Baltic integration into Western security structures.
