Author Description

Step into the world of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn at the height and the epicentre of the late-Victorian occult revival. This book explores the previously hidden history of Bradford's Horus No.5, one of the first Golden Dawn temples. Drawing from the best single Golden Dawn archive discovered to date (the 'Scott Collection'), it unveils the fascinating story of the Horus Temple, with an insightful look into its history, key figures, temple paraphernalia and cultural significance. In a rare blend of scholarship and storytelling, never-before seen images and texts are presented, challenging the current view of this most influential magical Order. It solves several mysteries, while raising some of its own. Learn about its impact on groups in the esoteric landscape of the time, such as the Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor and the Rosicrucian Fratres of Keighley. Horus No.5's legacy, kept in private hands for over 120 years, is a hugely significant and previously missing piece of the history of the Golden Dawn, which illuminates the occult and esoteric scene in turn-of-the-century West Yorkshire. For magical connoisseurs and newcomers alike, the information in this book unearths the intrigue, tension and drama of this lesser-known, yet momentous, chapter of British magical history.
