Author Description

This is a study of early colonial rule in South India, in the area of Kottayam in northern Kerala. The book analyzes the transitional phase between the mode of indigenous and of colonial administration and attempts to examine which concepts of the state lay behind the forms of local rule and the beginning of colonial rule.
