Author Description

More than the desire to take a holiday in an unfamiliar place, travel is for Hodge the urge to enrich one's mind and to pass on to one's contemporaries imaginative impressions and reminiscences. This demonstrates a variety of such impressions ranging from an account of Europe under Napoleon to the experiences of British travelers in America before 1940. Remote corners of the world are also described.
